Revision on the law of tort
Causation in tort law vortex
Causation is an essential requirement in many torts including negligence, occupiers liability, nuisance and liability under Rylands v Fletcher. It is essentially required where proof of damage is pertinent to the cause of action. There are certain rules and concepts that apply to causation in tort law such as the 'but for' test and requirement that there is no novus actus interveniens. There is an element of complexity when there is more than one cause, particularly where these are concurrent causes. Some key cases on causation in trot law include Barnett v Chelsea, McGhee v NCB, Bonnington v Wardlow.
